Cookie Sheet Chore Chart

 We are on Harvest Break and the weather hasn't been cooperating...it feels like winter.  So we needed a little project to keep us busy.

  A while back I made this Ice Cream Cone Chore Chart for my little girl and a Bubble Gum Chore Chart for my little boy, Ellie was feeling a little left out so we decided to make one during break, she came up with the cookie sheet idea and we went from there.

 It started out pink which I really liked but the spray paint I used just chipped right off ughh so after about three attempts to make the pink paint work we gave up and scraped it all off and decided grey isn't that bad.

If anyone knows how to paint metal without it chipping off, I'm all ears!

We mod podged scrapbook paper for the background and brushed on a thin layer as a protective coating.

A few decorative magnets just for fun.

We printed the chores onto regular printer paper, cut them to fit and mod podged them onto the tiles.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Hot glue magnets onto back

 

 To add the ribbon make holes with hammer and nail.

This would be great for a Super Saturday project or craft to do with kids, especially if you skip the painting part.

 

Turn a Tube Right Side Out/ Sewing tips

 To turn a tube of fabric I use a safety pin hook it through one side of your tube and close.

Turn it into the tube

 And start cinching your fabric along the safety pin until it reaches the opening.

That's it now pull it all the way through and iron flat.

Fabric Pacifier Clip Tutorial

 

My sister-in-law is having a baby boy in a few weeks, she was in need of some binky clips...thank you Pinterest! ( I would have no clue what anyone needed without Pinterest)

I happened to have some clips in my craft supplies, I found them on sale in the spring, they were for keeping mittens hooked onto coats..apparently nobody thought they were a necessity cause they had a whole bunch of them.

Some of them were black and some pink so we ended up painting the pink ones with nail polish..which worked quite well.

 These are super easy all you have to do is cut a rectangle out of any kind of fabric you choose

2 1/2" by 12"

Fold in half right sides together and sew to make a tube of fabric. Turn right side out.  Need help with this? click here.

    

                                                       

                            Now thread your fabric onto the clip        

Fold raw edge under and pin.  Sew a straight seam stitch across.

Now for the loop...we used elastic, ribbon, ric rac whatever you fancy.  Turn in the bottom edges and tuck your loop right in and sew another straight stitch across.

All Done!

Ensalada Chilena

My husband spent two years before we were married in Chile on a mission for our church, if you're interested in learning more about our church check out there website www.lds.org.  He fell in love with the food while he was there and this salad is one of his favorites when we have fresh garden tomatoes. 

I don't even like eating raw onion but for some reason it works in this combo. It is very simple and surprisingly really yummy!  

Recipe

 1/4 sweet onion diced

4 lrg fresh tomatoes diced

3 tbs canola or vegetable oil

1 diced avocado (opt.)

salt to taste

Combine all ingredients and mix well.  Eat on top of sliced french bread or dip bread into juice.  We usually just buy ours but if you want more of an authentic bread check out this recipe for Marraqueta.  You can find the recipe here.

Easy Wreath Tutorial

 

 I might be slightly obsessed with pic monkey ...you know the free photo editing website...it's the greatest..they have birds, twigs, flowers and anything you could ever want to put on or around a photo.

 Once again I love pic monkey...making collages is super fun.

 

 I have been looking everywhere for these flowers and haven't been able to find them for cheap enough until Walmart finally got them..they were only two bucks a sprig and they are quite long.  I cut them into thirds for my wreath and only had to buy three sprigs.

If you hadn't noticed I am super cheap/frugal/poor sooo I use cardboard a lot...cause it's free.  I just cut my wreath form out of the cardboard..you can make any size you like.

 I cut a bunch of twigs from our yard about a foot and half long and glued them down and some spriggy things I found at the dollar store.

You might want to place them on how you like before gluing down, just to get them evenly distributed.

I used hot glue and I wondered how strong it would be...I had my original twig wreath for three years and it held up just fine. (inside the house)

You can add blossoms for spring  leaves and gourds for fall like I did a few years back...this one was also made out of twigs from the yard and dollar store gourds and leaves.

Total cost for these wreaths is about 6.00 to 10.00 bucks depending on how cheap you can find your add ins.

Quiet Book

 This is a blast from the past quiet book I made for my oldest about seven years ago and we have loved it! They are quite time consuming but definitely worth the effort.

 I found these animals at a little shop on my way home...it must have been meant to be cause the little town I found these in consists of a gas station, fabric store and salon and that's about it...they just happened to have these in the salon...weird huh?

  This page was fashioned after a quiet book I played with growing up.

Same with this page...I can remember poking my little fingers in to make a beak.

Button flowers on me and see how pretty it will be.

I used a medium weight pelon for my quiet book pages and a heavier weight for the cover, you can find pelon at most fabric stores.  I traced my pages with a sharpie and used acryllic paint mixed with fabric medium to color them.  For the pages I sewed around three edges leaving the bottom open and trimmed with pinking shears.

I am planning on making a new farming quiet book for my boys, so I will make a more thorough tutorial with that one when I get it finished.

Shirred Waste Shirt Makeover

Last Christmas my husband went out on a limb and bought me clothing. He did a good job considering he grew up without sisters and doesn't care about clothing at all.

He bought me this....    

bless his heart, I felt like I was wearing a potato sack.

 

Granted after baby number four it has taken quite a while to get even somewhat close to back to normal..but I think my waste is coming back to visit for a while so I'm gonna take advantage of this time.  I have shirred a couple of dresses for my girls in the past and thought it might work on this shirt...I was rather pleased with the results.

Easy fix...this took me about 15 minutes

This would be great for making maternity clothes as well, if you added the shirring just a little higher. You could also add it to the bottom for a different look.

Just mark your waste and add a few rows of shirring, I did about 10 rows spaced a 1/4 inch apart.
